AskMN: The Librarian Is In!: Great River Regional Library Public FAQs
Late fees/fines
Answer
How to pay library charges
Effective January 2022, GRRL no longer charges late fees for items and all past late charges have been removed; replacement costs are still assessed for items considered lost (overdue 45 days)
Some locations are able to accept credit cards at self-check machines
Patrons may pay charges on library computers
Lending periods
Books, DVD and VHS: materials loan for three weeks.
Lucky Day: 7 days.
Interlibrary Loan: The loan period on interlibrary loan items is set by the lending library, not GRRL.
Magazines: The loan period on magazines is three weeks. The charge for magazine replacement is $1.
All Other Materials: The loan period on other items is three weeks.
Collection Agency
Accounts with a total unpaid balance of $25 or more will be turned over to Unique Management Services (a collection agency that helps libraries collect materials and money they are owed).
Accounts are turned over to UMS no less than 30 days after a courtesy billing notice is sent.
A $10 service fee is added to the patron account when it is turned over to UMS. Parents or guardians are responsible for debts incurred by minor children.
Other notes about charges
Balances over $1 must be paid before items may be checked out.
Contact your local library staff for questions about charges. You may also contact the Patron Services Specialist at (320) 650-2510 if you have questions about collection agency charges and fines.
