Can firewalls or ports cause problems with accessing library databases?

If you are off-campus, your firewall may be preventing access to library databases. Check your firewall software's port settings. Remember that routers may have their own firewalls. See the documentation for your brand and model of router. To use library databases or the catalog, allow outbound traffic on port 2443 for login.libpdb.d.umn.edu. If this doesn't solve the problem, you can also try opening port 2048.

Find more information on our Connect from Off Campus web page.

Or, you can consult the ITSS computer consultant at the first-floor service desk in the library at 218-726-8858 (within the library) or 218-726-8847 (Tech Center help Desk)
